- 75 British pounds£75
- The Birley Artist Studios
What this is
An in-person one day course which focuses on the key factor in making a good recording - critical listening. We briefly look at different applications of recording sound, then discuss the importance of acoustic spaces, our sonic environment, and the voice - helped along by examples. Then we cover basic principles of digital audio recording and microphones, and what might make a good recording, before finding our way around the recorders. After lunch, you will go off to make recordings for an hour or two. The last (and most important part) of the day is our listening and discussion session, where we listen back to what everyone has recorded, and why it was important to them. Always there are surprises, new perspectives and insights. You learn: The basic principles of digital audio recording. Different microphones and why they might be used. Different ideas on how sound is thought about and makes meaning. The concept of critical listening within a creative context.
